Intensive Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 launched

Recently the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0.

  • Intensive Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 aims to bridge the barrier posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to the routine immunization program of infants and pregnant women. Also, contribute towards achieving sustainable gains towards universal immunization.
  • There will be three rounds of this campaign. It will be operated in 418 districts of 33 states and union territories.
  • Unlike the previous 3 tours, IMI 4.0 will be held seven days a week. This also includes regular vaccination days, Sundays and public holidays.
  • Mission Indradhanush (MI) was launched in the year 2014. Its aim was to ensure full immunization for children up to two years of age and pregnant women. All available vaccines for immunization are given under the Universal Immunization Programme.
  • It aims to achieve 90% complete immunization coverage in all districts of the country.
  • Under Mission Indradhanush, all vaccines under the Universal Immunization Program (UIP) are provided as per the National Immunization Schedule.
  • UIP provides free vaccines against 12 life-threatening diseases. These include tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, hepatitis B, meningitis and pneumonia caused by Haemophilus influenzae Type B (HIB), measles, rubella, Japanese encephalitis (JE) and rotavirus diarrhea. Rubella, Japanese encephalitis and rotavirus vaccines are administered in select states and districts.
