INS Surat and INS Udayagiri
Recently, the Defense Ministry has commissioned two frontline warships (Indian Naval Ships) of the Indian Navy, ‘INS Surat’ and ‘INS Udayagiri’ at Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL).
- ‘Surat’ is the fourth destroyer of Project 15B class. It is the harbinger of several changes in the P15A (Kolkata class) destroyers.
- The 15B class ships are the next generation stealth guided missile destroyers of the Indian Navy. These are being built at Mazagon Dock Limited, Mumbai.
- ‘Udayagiri’ is the second stealth frigate of the P17A class.
- P17A is an improved version of Project 17A frigates (Shivalik class).
- The existing indigenously built warships are built under Shivalik class, Talwar class, Brahmaputra class and Godavari class.
