INS Sandhayak
Recently INS Sandhayak has been decommissioned after 40 years of service.
The ship was the oldest hydrographic survey ship of the Indian Navy, which was indigenously designed and built. It was the first ship of its class.
The ship rendered over 40 years of illustrious service in the Indian Navy, during which INS Sandhayak conducted 200 major hydrographic surveys on the western and eastern coasts of the Indian peninsula, including neighboring countries.
Many important works done through the ship like:-
- Operation Pawan: Assistance to Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka in 1987
- Operation Rainbow: Provided humanitarian aid after the 2004 tsunami
- Tiger-Triumph Exercise: Participation in the first joint Indo-US Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise ‘Tiger-Triumph’
