Infrastructure status to data centers
Recently, the central government has given infrastructure status to data centers.
As per the notification issued, data centers with IT load of minimum capacity of 5 MW will be considered eligible for infrastructure status.
- Data Center has been included in the Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors.
- The capacity of data centers is measured in terms of the electricity they consume. This is displayed on the scale of the servers they are hosting at their centers.
- The infrastructure status for data centers was first announced in the budget speech 2022-23.
- Data center companies will be able to easily get institutional credit at low rates;
- It will help in attracting foreign investment etc.
- Also, in the year 2020, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had released the draft Data Center Policy.
Objectives:
- To make India a global data center hub.
- To promote investment in this sector and provide state-of-the-art service to the citizens.
Why Data Center Monitoring is Essential?
- Currently, the installed power capacity for data centers in India is around 499 MW.
- It is expected to reach 1007 MW by the year 2023.
- The data localization norms stress on setting up a robust data center infrastructure in India.
- This is necessary to protect India’s digital sovereignty in this interconnected world.
Data Centers
- This is a dedicated secure space in a centralized location. Here computing and networking equipment is installed for the purpose of allowing collection, storage, processing, distribution or access to large amounts of data.
Services Provided by It:
Network infrastructure: Connects servers etc. to end user sites.
Storage infrastructure: Stores data.
Computing Resources: Provides the processing, memory, etc., that run the application.
