India, Maldives ink six agreements
Recently six agreements have been signed between India and Maldives.
During this, both the countries have agreed to take the bilateral strategic partnership to the next level.
Apart from this, various agreements have also been signed to maintain stability in the Indian Ocean region.
India-Maldives Relations
- India-Maldives Relations Maldives occupies a special place in India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy.
- India-Maldives resolved the political dispute over Minicoy Island through the Maritime Boundary Treaty of Minicoy is recognized as part of India under this treaty.
Defense and Security:
- In the year 2016, India-Maldives had signed the Comprehensive Defense Action Plan. A joint military exercise named Ekuverin is conducted between the Indian and Maldivian forces.
- Maldives is part of India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative. This initiative was announced by India in the year The initiative is a manifestation of India’s vision for the Indian Ocean.
Cooperation for development: In the year 2018, India gave an economic package of $ 1.4 billion to Maldives for its socio-economic development.
