India, Israel sign MoU for industrial research and development cooperation
Recently India and Israel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Industrial Research and Development Cooperation.
An MoU was signed between the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India and the Directorate of Defense Research and Development of Israel.
The MoU will cover sectors such as health care, aerospace, civil, sustainable energy ecology, environment, earth and ocean sciences, and water.
The year 2023 marks the completion of 30 years of successful diplomatic relations between India and Israel.
Major areas/projects of cooperation between India and Israel –
- India-Israel Industrial Research & Development (R&D) and Technological Innovation Fund: It supports joint industrial research and development projects to address challenges in agreed ‘focus sectors’ between the two countries.
- Bilateral Innovation Agreement (BIA): Under this, innovation is promoted in start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of both countries for the development of dual-use technologies
- The I2U2 (India, Israel, United Arab Emirates and United States) forum has identified six areas of cooperation. These six sectors are: water, energy, transport, space, health and food security.
- Indo-Israeli Agriculture Project: It aims to increase crop diversity, productivity and resource use efficiency.
- India Israel Water Partnership: Under this, assistance is provided to share Israeli best practices and technologies for water management and desalination.
- Defence: Under this cooperation is being done in high-profile sectors. Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) and Barak-8 Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) are being developed under this collaboration.
