India Industrial Land Bank
Recently the geographical Information System (GIS) based portal ‘India Industrial Land Bank’ (IILB) has grown in popularity, with its website registering 30 per cent increase in page views each month since April 2021.
Key Points:
- The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has developed ‘IILB Portal’, a GIS-enabled database of industrial sectors and clusters across the country to adopt a committed approach towards resource optimization, industrial upgradation and sustainability.
- This portal acts as a one-stop solution to provide free and easy access to industrial infrastructure-related information. E.g. connectivity, infrastructure, natural resources and area, plot-level information on vacant plots, methodology, and contact details.
- Its main objective is to provide information about the available land to the potential investors who wish to set up units in the country. It also provides links to state Geographical Information System (GIS) portals and state land banks.
Geographic Information System (GIS):
- Web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) consists of the application of spatial information, processing, and dissemination of information using the web and other operations.
- It helps in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of the results of the users to the maximum number of people and also helps in providing appropriate data to the policymakers.
- Any GIS can use information that includes location. Location can be expressed in many different ways, such as latitude and longitude, address, or zip code.
- GIS can include data related to people such as population, income or education level, etc.
- It may also include information regarding factories, farms, schools, storms, roads and power lines, etc.
