India’s diplomacy amid Ukraine Russia crisis
Recently, the Foreign Minister has said that India’s diplomacy on Ukraine-Russia crisis is based on 6 principles.
- India has had to be very careful diplomatically over the Ukraine crisis in the past few days. India is doing so in an effort to balance its ties with Russia and the West.
- The United Nations General Assembly voted on two resolutions on the humanitarian crisis that arose in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. India remained absent during voting on both the occasions.
- Russia was held responsible for the crisis through the first draft resolution. India was absent at the time of voting on this.
- The opportunity to vote for the second time came when it was demanded whether the UN General Assembly should bring a second resolution calling for action. However, the resolution did not mention Russia. It was only a type of procedural vote.
- The government has conveyed that India’s approach to this crisis or its diplomacy is guided by its national interests. It is based on six principles. These principles support a peaceful solution through dialogue and diplomacy.
The following are these six principles:
- “Immediate cessation of violence and end to hostilities”,
- “A return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy” and the global order being anchored on international law,
- Returning to the path of dialogue and diplomacy,
- The UN Charter and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states
- Opportunities for human access even in conflict situations,
- And maintain contact with the top leadership of both the countries, Russia and Ukraine.
