India-ASEAN Joint Digital Action Plan

Recently, the second meeting of ASEAN Digital Ministers (ADGMIN) with India was held through virtual medium.

In the meeting, the plan was approved to make the internet more useful from preventing cybercrime.

About action plan

  • Under this, the countries concerned will share their knowledge in emerging areas of digital technologies like 5-G Technology, Internet of Things (IoT), cyber forensics and advanced satellite communication.
  • Concerned countries will work together and develop technology to fight internet hacking, mobile phone theft. Apart from this, a plan will also be prepared to deal with the wrong anti-social use of stolen mobile phones.

ADGMIN Forums

  • It is the forum for the annual meeting of communication ministers of 10 countries of ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
  • Dialogue partner countries – Australia, Canada, China, European Union, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, UK and US also participate in the meeting.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

  • ASEAN was established in 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the founding nations.
  • The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a regional organization established to promote political and social stability amid rising tensions between the colonizing nations of the Asia-Pacific.
  • The motto of ASEAN is ‘One Vision, One Identity, One Community’. The Secretariat of ASEAN is in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. 8 August is celebrated as ASEAN Day.
