Implementation Plan for National Education Policy 2020
The Ministry of Education is going to release the implementation plan for the National Education Policies 2020 soon.
National Education Policy 2020
- The last National Education Policy was formulated in 1986, which was amended in the year 1992.
- The current policy is based on the report of a committee headed by space scientist K. Kasturirangan.
- It has been targeted to bring the gross enrollment ratio to 100% by the year 2030 under the new National Education Policy 2020.
- Under the new education policy, the public expenditure of 6% of the GDP on education sector has been targeted with the cooperation of the central and state government.
- With the announcement of new education policy, the name of Ministry of Human Resource Development has been changed to Ministry of Education.
What steps have been taken so far?
- A scheme called National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA) has been launched to build the capacity of teachers and school principals at the primary level.
- The Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (Diksha) portal was launched to expand e-learning by providing access to a large number of course-linked e-content (digital course content).
- Approval has been granted for the establishment of a National Mission on Basic Literacy and Numerical Knowledge.
- For the mental health and well-being of the students, an initiative called “Manodarpan ” has been started. It focuses on the goal of providing emotional support and counseling to students during stress.
- The development of the Indian Sign Language Dictionary for School Education has been proposed.
- The existing schemes like Holistic Education, Mid-Day Meal and Reading Writing Campaign are being combined with the recommendations of the National Education Policy-2020.
- States and Union Territories are also setting up their own workforce to implement the National Education Policy-2020.
