- All three of its members are democracies and have large economies from three different continents.
- These three countries are also facing similar challenges.
- It is based on the spirit of South-South Cooperation (SSC). Cooperation between developing countries is called ‘South-South Cooperation’.
- India will also host the sixth IBSA summit along with the G20 summit in November 2022.
Key Initiatives under IBSA –
- The IBSA Fund has been established to eradicate demand-driven poverty and hunger in developing countries.
- 14 Joint Working Groups have been set up for cooperation in the areas of transport, health, education, defence, science and technology etc.
- The IBSA business platform was launched in the year 2005. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) coordinates India’s participation in this.
- South-South Cooperation (SSC) refers to the exchange and sharing of ideas in solving development issues between countries located in the Global South.
- The division of “North” and “South” is also used to refer to the social, economic and political differences that exist between developed countries (North) and developing countries (South).
- However, a country is not defined as North or South by location. Rather it is defined by economic factors and the quality of life of their population.
