During School

Concentrate on your school studies to get excellent scores as the foundation for your academic career. It matters in every walk of life. Also participate in school sports, cultural and other activities. It is better to get into the competitive mode early.

Start grooming yourself for a career in civil services. Your turnout outside home should be exemplary, look smart and behave smart. If you have same times you can take Online Classes for UPSC (A 3-year foundation batch).

Learn to speak properly using correct vocabulary as far as possible in school, home and outside. Stop using lingo words. Learn ten new words with usage every day.

If you are in 12th class group then start reading two newspapers everyday but not necessarily in the morning. You can read them in the evening as well. Concentrate on editorials and opinion pieces. Try to digest as much world knowledge as far as possible.

Widen your reading of classics and modern novels. Read up a few biographies of successful people and try to internalize their success formula.

Keep your NCERT books from 9th to 12th safely for use later on.

During College

Write one precis every week of the lead editorial of the paper of your choice and get it appraised by teacher. This will teach you to understand the issues involved, reduce them to one third words and re-write those in your own language. This is vital for understanding world issues with clarity. Always select subjects for graduate program in which you would feel interested and motivated. Never make a choice of stream on the advice of others. All graduate studies are neutral to civil services exam.

By the last year of your graduate studies start your preparations seriously for CSE. Start going through the syllabus and try to pick your optional preferably with the help of a mentor.

Having chosen the optional start reading the basic books to get an idea of the concepts of that subject.

Widen your general knowledge at a higher level by reading serious magazines and articles in dailies.

During Post-graduation

Choose your post graduate program with an eye on CSE. From now on start doing everything in life with a view to be successful at CSE.

Always consult your mentor for all decisions but make your own choice.

Stay in touch to your family. They will provide the emotional content once you begin your CSE preparations seriously.

As far a possible avoid use of tobacco products and do not consume any form of liquor.  Stay healthy and fit by regular exercises.

It’s a three-part exam of consisting of Prelims which is multiple choice questions exam basically to eliminate large numbers of non-serious candidates. It is qualifying in nature.

Then those who qualify have to write 9 papers in Mains which includes two paper of one optional subject.

Those who clear mains have to appear before an Interview board and pass the medical exam.

Finally, after passing interview candidates are recommended for appointment.

UPSC is the recruiting agency. Except this COVID year the prelims is organized in May/ June every year. With mains in Sept/ October and interviews in February /March of the next year.

Final result is declared in April / May.

  • Try to understand the demand of UPSC Through Reading the notification of UPSC, try to meet IAS Offices and topers.
