Functionality Assessment of Household Tap Report 2022
Recently the Ministry of Jal Shakti has released the report ‘Functionality assessment of household tap connection – 2022’ under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The FHTC report is generated annually by a third party agency. The aim is to ensure adequate monitoring. This monitoring has been made mandatory under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
FHTC means domestic tap connection supplying water.
- Adequate water supply: At least 55 liters of water per person per day should be supplied.
- On a regular basis: To be supplied continuously over a long period of time. Key findings of the report – 62% of households have got fully functional tap water connections in their premises.
- Overall FHTC in the country has increased by 14% in the year 2021-22 over the previous year.
- Puducherry (88%), Tamil Nadu (86%) and Himachal Pradesh (82%) have scored highest in terms of functional taps.
Jal Jeevan Mission (JUM)
It is a centrally sponsored scheme.
The fund allocation share between the Center and the States/UTs is in the following ratio:
- Central Government will provide 100% funding for Union Territories without Legislature;
- in the ratio of 90:10 for North Eastern and Himalayan States and Union Territories with Legislatures; And
- In the ratio of 50:50 for the rest of the states.
- It aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water to all households in rural India through individual household tap connections by the year
- The mission empowers Panchayati Raj institutions and communities by involving them in the implementation of water supply schemes.
