The Great Green Wall (GGW) program is an African-led initiative with the United Nations Convention for the Prevention of Desertification (UNCCD) as a key partner.
- It aims to restore the degraded lands of the Sahel region from Senegal in the west of Africa to Djibouti (11 countries) in the east.
- According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), for every dollar invested in land restoration through the Great Green Wall program, investors can expect to earn an average profit of $1.20.
- Once complete, the GGW will be the largest living structure on the planet. It will be 3 times the size of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.s
