Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)

In view of the deteriorating air quality, the National Capital Region has been directed to be ready to take action under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

GRAP

  • GRAP, which was notified by the union environment ministry in January 2017, classifies air pollution into four categories of air quality—moderate to poor, very poor, severe, very severe or emergency.
  • GRAP was notified by the Union Environment Ministry in the year 2017. It is a set of emergency measures to be taken to reduce air pollution based on the level of pollution.
  • The Graded Response Action Plan was brought in pursuance of the Supreme Court order in MC Mehta Vs Union of India.
