Government prepared a roadmap for Agri Stack
Recently, the Central Government is finalizing the ‘India Digital Ecosystem of Agriculture (IDEA)’ to prepare a framework for Agri Stack.
A concept paper on India Digital Ecosystem of Agriculture (IDEA) has already been released by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare for the following purposes.
- To build a national digital agriculture ecosystem.
- To take the Indian agriculture sector to higher levels of efficiency and productivity.
- To improve the welfare and income of farmers.
- Finalization of IDEA will help in developing the infrastructure for AgriStack. The infrastructure will be a collection of technologies and digital databases focused on farmers and the agriculture sector.
- Under this, integrated Farmers Stack (Aadhaar related data of farmer), Farm Stack (Geospatial information on each farm) and Crop Stack (farm related crop data) etc can be incorporated on a single technology platform.
Benefits of Agri Stack
- Access to the right information at the right time and through innovative services will enable farmers to achieve higher income and better profitability.
- There will be an increase in the efficiency of use of resources including land, water, seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and agricultural mechanization.
- It will help in the creation of agriculture centric innovative solutions (crop insurance products, financial assistance etc.).
- However, there are also concerns related to Agri Stack such as data security, lack of digital access and literacy, exit errors, etc.
