Government Approves 5 MHz 4G Spectrum For Indian Railway
Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for allocation of 5 MHz spectrum in 700 MHz frequency band to Indian Railways for public safety and security services in station premises and trains.
Key Points:
- Through this spectrum, Indian Railways plans to provide Long-Term Evolution (LTE) based mobile train radio communication on its route.
- It will be used for modern signaling and train protection systems, and to ensure seamless communication between loco pilots and guards.
- This will enable Internet of Things (IoT) based remote asset monitoring especially monitoring of coaches, wagons and locos and live video-feed of CCTV cameras in train coaches, ensuring safe and fast running of trains.
- ‘Long-Term Evolution’ is a fourth-generation (4G) wireless standard that provides increased network capacity and speeds for cell phones and other cellular devices compared to third-generation (3G) technology.
