Recently, six technology innovation platforms have been launched in India by the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises to develop technologies for globally competitive manufacturing.

These have been launched in the backdrop of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes launched last year, which are focused on making India a global manufacturing hub.

The 6 platforms are as follows:-

  1. The Drishti, developed by the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bengaluru, focuses on the machine tool sector.
  2. The technology and innovation platform, developed by Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, is focused on reducing imports in the machine tool sector.
  3. A digitally enabled platform infrastructure (SanRachna) developed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) focused on the renewable energy and power electronics sector.
  4. The KITE – (Knowledge Integration for Technology Enhancement) platform developed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, focuses on virtual reality, automation, advanced manufacturing technologies and robotics.
  5. The Aspire ASPIRE (Automotive Solutions Portal for Industry Research and Education) platform by the International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT), focuses on automotive technology.
  6. TECHNOVUUS by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), focuses on sustainable mobility.

The platform is based on four pillars:
