- Recently, the Global Network against Food Crises (GNAFC) has released the Global Report on Food Crisis,
- The Global Network against Food Crisis (GNAFC) is an international coalition formed by the European Union, the United Nations and other governmental and non-governmental agencies.
Highlights of the report:
- The Global Network against Food Crisis has reviewed the situation in a total of 55 countries in its study, in which the GNAFC report found that, before now, the worst level of such starvation was recorded five years ago.
- According to the GNAFC report, more than 155 million people were in acute food insecurity in 2020,which is 20 million higher than the year
- According to the GNAFC report, about 80crore people in 38 countries and regions are suffering from nutritional deficiency.
- Conflicts, bad weather and economic shocks related to the COVID-19pandamic are pushing millions of people into food insecurity.
- Of this, about 133,000 people are in the most severe phase of food insecurity. They are mostly from Burkina Faso, Yemen and South Sudan.
- More than 28 million people faced emergency-level food insecurity in The emergency level meant they were one step away from starvation.
- Between 2016 and 2020, the population affected by food insecurity has increased from 94 million to 147
Africa:
- According to the report, the African country is affected in an asymmetrical manner. Due to violent conflict, about 100 million people do not have enough food to eat, which is a risk to their life and livelihood. Two out of three people facing food insecurity are from the African continent.
- Africa is the most affected continent due to lack of food. More than 63% of global food shortage cases are from Africa.
