Global Initiative on Sharing Avian Influenza Data (GISAID)
A research team has discovered a new strain of Covid-19, Deltacron, in Cyprus. It is a combination of Delta and Omicron. The research team has shared the findings of the discovery with GISAID.
About GISAID:
It was launched in the year 2008. The initiative promotes rapid sharing of data on all influenza viruses and the corona virus that causes COVID-19.
Data includes:
- Genetic sequence and associated clinical and epidemiological data for human viruses and geographic and species-specific data for bird and other animal viruses.
- Sharing the data helps researchers better understand how viruses develop and spread during widespread infectious diseases and pandemics.
