Convention on International Road Traffic – Geneva Convention, 1949
Recently the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notification on standardization of procedure for issuance of International Driving Permit (IDP) across the country in compliance with this Convention.
- This convention is an international treaty. It promotes the development and safety of international road traffic by creating some common rules between the contracting parties.
- India is a signatory to this Convention. Therefore, it is required to issue IDPs in accordance with the terms of this Convention in order to accede to its provisions on a reciprocal basis with other countries.
