‘Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal’ launched by DoT for the right of centralized routing
Recently, Department of Telecommunications has launched Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal for Centralized Right of Way (RoW) approval.
This portal will facilitate the smooth setting up of digital communication infrastructure across the country, in line with the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
It is a collaborative institutional mechanism between all stakeholders including Central and State/UT Governments, local bodies and service providers.
It has been developed by Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation.
Benefits of Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal:
- This will ensure transparency, accountability, accountability and effective monitoring in the timely launch of 5G networks.
- RoW will streamline applications and permissions through a single interface for applying and checking application status.
- The telecom industry depends on getting timely approval of RoW permission to expedite the setting up of infrastructure.
However, industries face the following challenges:
- Time taken for approval of RoW,
- Refusal to allow access to commercial/residential areas,
- Lack of uniformity in RoW proposals,
- Lack of coordination between center and states etc.
Under the National Digital Communications Policy, 2018, the target has been set to ensure “Broadband for All”. This goal is to be achieved through better broadband connectivity in remote areas by faster laying of optical fiber cables, increase in tower density, etc.
Three missions are mentioned in this policy:
- Connect India: Establishing a robust digital communication infrastructure.
- Propel India: Enabling next generation technologies and services.
- Secure India: Ensuring the sovereignty and security of digital communications.
