G20 Presidency: Logo and Theme Unveiled
Recently the Prime Minister has unveiled the logo, theme and website for the G20 presidency of India.
India will chair the G20 grouping for one year from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023.
The G-20 summit is taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 15 and 16 November.
G20: Logo and Theme
Logo:
- The G20 logo is inspired by the vibrant colors of the national flag of India. It includes saffron, white, green and blue colours.
- The Lotus logo, the national flower of India, is inspired by the vibrant colors of the national flag of India. In this the earth has been combined with the lotus, the national flower of India, which signifies growth in the midst of challenges.
- Earth reflects India’s earth-friendly approach towards life, which reflects the perfect harmony with nature. ‘Bharat’ is mentioned in Devanagari script below the G-20
Theme:
- The theme of the chairmanship of India’s G20 group is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. It is taken from the ancient Sanskrit text of Maha Upanishad. The theme also highlights ‘LiFE’ (Lifestyle for the Environment).
- The official website for India’s G20 Presidency is www.g20.in. Also, a mobile app ‘G20 India’ has also been released.
The G20
- The G20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It does not have a permanent secretariat.
- It was established in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis as a forum for finance ministers and central bank governors.
- G-20 members represent about 85% of global GDP, and more than 75% of global trade.
- It plays a vital role in shaping and strengthening finance and governance on a global scale on all major international economic issues.
- The group plays an important strategic role in achieving future global economic growth and prosperity.
The G20 consists of two parallel tracks: the Finance track and the Sherpa track. The finance minister and central bank governor lead the finance track while the Sherpa track is headed by a Sherpa.
It currently has 20 member states and the European Union.
