Guidelines for Fees Fixation in Private Medical Institutions by National Medical Commission (NMC)
Recently, the National Medical Commission has issued guidelines regarding the fixation of fees in private medical institutions.
- According to these guidelines, the fees for 50 percent seats in private medical institutions and deemed universities will be equal to the fees of government medical colleges of the respective state or union territory.
- The benefit of this fee structure will be first available to those candidates who have availed the government quota seats. These seats will be limited to 50 per cent of the sanctioned seats in private medical colleges or deemed universities.
- However, if the government quota seats are less than 50 percent of the total sanctioned seats, then this benefit will be passed on to the remaining candidates on the basis of their merit.
- Private medical institutions and deemed universities have very high fees. Hence, the objective of these guidelines is to benefit the meritorious and deserving students suffering from financial constraints.
- The National Medical Commission has been established by the NMC Act, 2019. It has replaced the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
- The objective of the National Medical Commission is to develop and regulate and improve all aspects relating to medical education, the medical profession and medical institutions.
