Education Technology (EdTech) companies will develop online courses
Under the recent UGC reforms, Education Technology (EdTech) companies can collaborate with universities to develop online courses.
Certain amendments have been proposed in the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programs and Online Programs) Regulations, 2020. Through these amendments, EdTech companies will be allowed to collaborate with higher education institutions.
Under this, EdTech companies will help in developing course material and evaluation of students. For this they will collaborate with higher education institutions offering online undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
EdTech is the short form of Education Technology. It uses computers, computer programs and educational systems to provide learning and training.
Significance of this step:
- It is a huge value market. The Indian EdTech industry was valued at US$750 million in the year 2020. It is expected to reach US$ 4 billion by the year 2025 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 39.77 per cent.
- This will encourage greater flexibility for colleges and universities.
- Under this, with the rapidly growing EdTech sector, the available technical tools will be used.
- Also, it will make EdTech sector and digital schooling transparent and legal.
