Recently, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs released the final rankings of Ease of Living Index (EOLI) 2020.
In 2020, under the Smart Cities program, total of 111 cities were included for evaluation.
Out of 111 cities, Bengaluru has emerged as the top city in the Ease of Living Index 2020. Pune is second and Ahmedabad is third.
On what basis rankings are released?
Cities in the Ease of Living Index 2020 are divided into the following two categories:
Million+ category (Municipalities having over a million populations)
Less than a Million Populations.
Million+ category:
- Bengaluru followed by Pune and Ahmedabad.
Less Than Million Categories:
Shimla followed by Bhubaneshwar and Silvassa.
- The Ease of Living Index is an assessment tool for The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which evaluates the quality of life and checks the impact of various initiatives taken for the urban development in the city.
- It provides a comprehensive understanding of participating cities across India based on the standard of living, economic potential of a city, and its stability and resilience.
- It also incorporates residents’ perspectives on the services provided by the city administration through a citizen perception survey.
