The number of workers who have registered on the eSHRAM portal has increased to more than 4 crore recently. The Ministry of Labor and Employment has developed the e-SHRAM Portal to create a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW). Its objective is to widen their employability and extend the benefits of social security schemes to them.
This is the first national database created for the unorganized workers. If an employee registered on the e-Shram portal meets with an accident and dies in an accident or becomes permanently disabled, an amount of Rs 20 lakh to him or his family, and in the case of his partial disability an amount of Rs 1 lakh will be provided.
