Digital India Awards (DIA) 2022
- Recently, the ‘Smart Cities Mission’ of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has won the Platinum Icon Award of the Digital India Awards (DIA)
- The Digital India Awards are given for innovative digital solutions presented by government entities in realizing the Digital India vision.
- The awards are organized by the National Informatics Center (NIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
- The Smart Cities Mission has been given the award for its DataSmart Cities – Empowering Cities through Data initiative.
- The DataSmart Cities (DSC) initiative has been launched under the National Urban Digital Mission. The initiative aims to harness the power of data for better governance in 100 smart cities of India.
- It uses a three-pronged approach (People, Process and Platform) to inculcate a culture of data awareness and data usage in city functioning.
Benefits of Data Smart City
- It will help city administrators to formulate better policies for greater efficiency in the delivery of services and allocation of resources.
- Will solve complex problems like congestion, cleanliness through citizen empowerment.
- Will promote multidisciplinary research on urban issues.
- Promote transparency and accountability by providing reliable data through data platforms.
Initiatives taken to promote DataSmart Cities
Smart Cities on Open Data Portal has been developed. It is a common platform for sharing data of cities.
India Urban Data Exchange Platform has been launched for the exchange of data.
Assessment and Monitoring Platform for Liveable, Inclusive and Future – Ready Urban India (AMPLIFI) initiative has been launched.
