Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) Mission
The DART mission is NASA’s first planetary defense test mission. It will be launched at the end of this month.
The objective of this mission is to test a newly developed technology. This involves hitting a spacecraft with an asteroid and using the resulting energy to change the asteroid’s path.
In this mission, a new technology designed to stop an asteroid coming towards Earth in future will be tested.
The spacecraft used in the test is aimed at a small moon (Moonlet) called Dymo Pharcos.. It orbits a large asteroid called Didymos.
A moonlet is a small natural or artificial satellite.
