Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Report – 2021
Recently the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2021 has released the crime report in India.
This annual report of NCRB is a compilation of data related to crimes against women to economic and financial crimes.
Key findings of report-
- Overall, the number of crimes registered in the year 2021 has seen a decline of 7.6% as compared to the year 2020.
- The crime rate per lakh population had come down from 487.8 crimes in the year 2020 to 445.9 crimes in the year 2021.
- The charge-sheet filing rate had increased to 93.5% in the year 2021. In the year 2020, this rate was 90%.
Other findings-
- Deaths due to road accidents have increased by 14.3%,
- There has been an increase of 4.3% in cases of sexual harassment against women at workplace and during public transport etc.
Cybercrime related matters
- According to the latest report, 52,974 cases of cyber crime were registered in India in the year 2021. These are 5% more than the year 2020 and more than 15% as compared to the year 2019 (44,735 cases).
- Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam have recorded over 70% of cyber crime cases.
- In the year 2021, an average of 3.9 cases related to cyber crime was registered per one lakh population. Cybercrime refers to the use of computers to carry out illegal activities.
- These include fraud, trafficking in child pornography and intellectual property, theft of identity information or infringement of privacy.
