Codex Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs (CCSCH)

The recently constituted Codex Committee is a committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs.

This committee has recommended quality norms for nutmeg, saffron and chilli (black pepper and paprika). Also, these standards have been sent to the ‘Codex Alimentarius Commission’ (CAC) for final approval.

CCSCH was formed in the year 2013. Its objective is to develop and expand worldwide standards for spices and herbs used in food.

It has been established under the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), Rome.

India is the host and chairman country of this committee. Spices Board of India acts as the secretariat of this committee.

Mandate-

  • Consulting with other international organizations as needed in the standard development process to avoid duplication.
  • CAC was constituted in the year 1963. It is an intergovernmental body jointly constituted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
