India shapes climate action efforts at G-20 summit
Recently, India has made significant breakthroughs in the G20 shaping climate action efforts.
The G20 leaders called for coordinating efforts based on shared efforts to address the most pressing global challenges, better recover from the COVID-19 crisis, and enable sustainable and inclusive growth around the world.
Important decisions taken in the conference
Climate change: G20 leaders for the first time underlined sustainable and responsible consumption and production as critical enablers in achieving the goal.
Sustainable consumption and responsible production models are also part of Sustainable Development Goal-12. It aims to encourage developed countries to limit their luxury energy-intensive lifestyles.
Health: The G20 leaders agreed that the World Health Organization (WHO) would be strengthened to expedite the approval process for emergency use of COVID-19 vaccines.
Food Security, Nutrition, Agriculture and Food Systems: Collaborating with or participating in the Food Coalition initiated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The initiative has been recognized as a tool of response against the effects of COVID-19 on food security and nutrition.
India emphasized and has been able to achieve commitments from G-20 countries to improve the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers.
