Central Zoo Authority

Recently, ‘Vision Plan (2021-2031)’ for Indian Zoos has been released. The vision plan aims to upgrade the Indian zoos and strengthen the Central Zoo Authority (CZA).

The CZA was established in 1992. It is the statutory regulatory body for zoos in India.

The main objective of the (CZA) is to support the national effort in conserving the country’s rich biodiversity, especially fauna, as per the ‘National Zoo Policy, 1998’.

Main Function:

  • The CZA enforces minimum norms for the maintenance and health care of animals in Indian zoos.
  • Every zoo in the country is required to get accreditation from the ‘Zoo Authority’ (CZA) for its operation.
