NITI Aayog and BMZ hold inaugural NITI – BMZ Dialogue on Development Cooperation
NITI Aayog and German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) recently held the inaugural NITI-BMZ Dialogue of Development Cooperation through video conferencing.
The NITI-BMZ dialogue focuses on the following five key areas of cooperation:
- Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
- climate action,
- energy transition,
- Emerging technologies and agro-ecology.
The two countries underlined ‘important cooperation on agro-ecology and natural resources and also, expressed the need to increase cooperation on natural farming in India.
Other clean energy cooperation between India-Germany-
- In May 2022, India and Germany signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development (GSDP).
- In June 2022, India and the G-7 had agreed to work towards a ‘Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP)’.
- The Indo-German Energy Program (IGEN) was launched to assist in the implementation of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
Indo-German relations-
- There is a strategic partnership between the two countries. In the year 2021, the two countries celebrated 70 years of the establishment of mutual diplomatic relations.
- India has a key role in the Indo-Pacific 6 guidelines issued by Germany in the year 2020.
- Germany is the sixth largest trading partner of India.
- Both countries are members of the G-4. The other countries of the G-4 forum are Brazil and Japan. The countries of this group are demanding reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
