Blue Transformation : Roadmap 2022 – 2030 (FAO)
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has released the ‘Blue Transformation Roadmap 2022-2030’.
The roadmap recognizes the importance of aquatic food systems as drivers of employment, economic growth, social development and environmental improvement. All of these are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This roadmap is a targeted effort of blue transformation in line with the ‘Declaration 2021 for Sustainable Fisheries, and Aquaculture’ of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI).
Agencies, countries and dependent communities use existing and new knowledge, tools and practices to maximize the contribution of aquatic (both marine and inland) food systems. This can ensure food security, nutrition and an affordable healthy diet for all.
Why is the Blue Transformation Roadmap needed?
- This can ensure adequate aquatic food for a growing population. This aquatic food is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable and equitable.
- It ensures availability and access to safe and nutritious aquatic food for all.
- It can improve the rights and incomes of vulnerable communities.
