Birth Celebration of Sarojini Naidu 

Every year on 13 February, the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu’s is celebrated.

Key Points:

  • Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879.In England, he attended King’s College in London and Girton College, Cambridge.
  • She could not complete her education, but she was talented in poetic creation of English language. At the age of just 13, she wrote the poem ‘The Lady of Lake’.
  • His famous compositions include Golden Threshold, The Bird of Time, The Broken Wing, Neelambu, Travelers Song, etc. Sarojini Naidu’s collection of poems, Bird of Time and Broken Wing made her a well-known poetess.
  • Along with a great poetess, Sarojini Naidu was also a great freedom fighter. In 1906, Sarojini Naidu gave an impressive speech in Calcutta, which greatly impressed Gopalakrishnan Gokhale. Gokhale guided him to come forward in politics. In addition,  Naidu met Gandhiji in 1914 in London.
  • Gokhale was described by Mrs. Sarojini Naidu as an active and hardworking worker and a mystic dreamer.
  • He was awarded the honor of ‘Kaiser-e-Hind’ by the British in the year 1908.Disgusted with the Jallian wala Bagh massacre, he returned the ‘Kaiser-e-Hind’ honor, which he got in 1908.
  • Sarojini Naidu’s was one of the volunteers to accompany Gandhiji in the famous Salt Satyagraha of 1930.
  • After the independence of India, he was appointed as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and she also got the distinction of being the first Indian woman to be appointed to the post of Governor.
  • Sarojini Naidu joined the “All India Women’s Conference”, India’s oldest and most important women’s organization.
  • This great heroine in Indian history will always be remembered by the coming generations as ‘Bharat Kokila’, ‘National leader’ and ‘supporter of the women’s liberation movement’.
