Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC)
In the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India supported the BTWC and said that it should be implemented in letter and spirit.
BTWC or Biological and Toxic Weapons Treaty (BWC):
- It is a multilateral treaty requiring a ban on chemical weapons and their destruction within a stipulated time. It was the first multilateral disarmament treaty to ban an entire class of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
- It effectively prohibits the development, production, acquisition, transfer, storage and use of biological and toxic weapons. These are agents or substances that have no justification for their protective or peaceful use.
