Bihar to Sterilise Blue Bulls
In order to control the growing population of Nilgai, a scheme for their sterilization has been made by the Bihar government.
Earlier in the year 2015, the Center had approved the slaughter of wild animals like Nilgai in Bihar by declaring them as “vermin” under the Wildlife Protection Act (WPA), 1972.
According to the WPA, states can send a list of wild animals to the Center requesting that they be declared a pest for selective slaughter.
The Central Government may declare any wild animal as a pest other than the animals specified in Part 11 of Schedule I and Schedule II of the WPA.
Such wild animals are included in the Schedule, which deprives them of any protection under the WPA for a specified period of time.
