AR6 Synthesis Report: Climate Change 2023

AR6 Synthesis Report: Climate Change 2023

Recently, the Synthesis Report of the Sixth Assessment Cycle (ARG) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was released.

The report has been adopted by all member countries during the 58th session of the IPCC in Switzerland on 19 March 2023.

This report confirms the scientific view that CO2 is the primary greenhouse gas and needs to be reduced significantly.

The report mentions that for every 1000 giga-tons of carbon dioxide (Gt CO2) emitted by human activity, the global surface temperature rises by 0.45°C.

Reaching net zero CO2 or GHG emissions primarily requires deep and rapid reductions in gross CO2 emissions, as well as substantial reductions in non- CO2 GHG emissions.

Climate justice and equity can be important steps to ensure climate action and growth and development for developing countries.

The synthesis report draws attention to the fact that the largest climate finance gap is in developing countries and calls for urgent financial support from developed countries and other sources to developing countries.
