Apatani Clothes
Recently, Geographical Indication (GI) tag application has been filed for Arunachal Pradesh Apatani Clothes – Textile Product.
The fabric woven by the Apatani tribe is noted for its geometric and zigzag pattern.
They primarily weave shawls, known as zig-jiro, and jilan or jackets, known as suputari.
Apatani tribe
- They are settled in Ziro (Arunachal Pradesh) village.
- They are known for cane and bamboo crafts as well as fishing and paddy cultivation.
- They speak a local language called Tani and worship the Sun and the Moon.
Important festivals: Dri and Myoko festivals.
