African Swine Fever (ASF)
Recently, a case of ‘African swine fever’ (ASF) has been reported in a breeding farm in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Since then, the Tripura government has decided to massacre all the infected pigs reared in the farm.
What is African Swine Fever (ASF)
- African swine fever is a highly contagious and fatal disease in animals. It infects domestic and wild pigs. Due to African swine fever infection, pigs suffer from a type of acute hemorrhagic fever.
- African swine fever was first observed in Africa in the 1920s.
- There is no cure for this fever, and the mortality rate in this disease is close to 100 percent.
- No recognized vaccine has yet been discovered for African swine fever, which is why infected animals are killed to prevent the spread of the infection.
