‘AFINDEX 2023’: Africa – India Joint Exercise
Recently, the second edition of Africa – India joint exercise ‘AFINDEX 2023′ was held.
Along with this, the first edition of India-Africa Military Chiefs’ Conference was also organized.
The exercise focused on humanitarian landmine assistance and UN peacekeeping operations. The first edition of AFINDEX was organized in 2019.
India-Africa Defense Relations
- The India-Africa Defense Dialogue (IADD) was held on the sidelines of DefExpo 2022. The Gandhinagar Declaration was adopted during this dialogue.
- In this declaration, emphasis has been laid on increasing cooperation in the field of training and military exercises.
The foundation of India-Africa defense relations is based on the following two guiding principles:
- SAGAR – Security and development for all in the region.
- Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The whole world is one family.
According to a report by Exim Bank, India is a major defense exporter to African countries.
Mauritius accounted for 6.6% of total arms exports from India to Africa between 2017-2021. It was followed by Mozambique (5%) and Seychelles (2.3%).
