61st Foundation Day of Border Roads Organization (BRO)
- The 61st Foundation Day of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has been celebrated on 7th May The Border Roads Organization (BRO) was formed on 7 May 1960.
- The Border Roads Organization aims to secure India’s borders and develop infrastructure in remote areas of the north and north eastern states of India.
- It functions primarily as a major road construction agency under the Ministry of Defense.
- It is to be noted that this organization is playing a leading role in providing road connectivity in the border areas.
Border Roads Organization- BRO
- Its primary role is to provide road connectivity in the border areas of India. It also builds borders as well as infrastructure to meet India’s overall strategic goals.
- In addition to road construction, the Border Road Organization also undertakes maintenance works along the northern and western borders to meet the strategic needs of the Indian Army.
- Till date, the Border Roads Organization has constructed over 53,000 km of roads. It contributes to India’s strategic objectives in neighboring regions by building roads inneighboring friendly countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
- Along with this, the organization also works in the field of disaster management, under which it has played an important role in the reconstruction work after the tsunami in Tamil Nadu in 2004, Kashmir earthquake in 2005, floods in Ladakh in 2010, etc.
