46th Meeting of Indian Labor Conference- ILC

Recently, ‘Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh’ has appealed to Indian Prime Minister to organize ‘Indian Labor Conference’ (ILC). It may be noted that earlier the Indian Labor Conference (ILC) was organized in the year 2015.

Need to organize ‘Indian Labour Conference’:

  • To maintain the ‘Tripartism’ tradition of government, employer and worker in the country, it is necessary to organize ‘ Indian Labour Conference’.
  • Since the convention number 144 of the ‘International Labor Organization’ (ILO) related to this ‘tripartite’ system has been recognized by the Indian Parliament, it is also a moral and legal obligation of India to organize ‘Indian Labour Conference’.

About ILC:

  • The Indian Labor Conference (ILC), is a high-level ‘Tripartite Consultative Committee’ in the ‘Ministry of Labor and Employment’ to advise the Government on all issues relating to the working class in the country.
  • The members of the ‘Indian Labor Conference’ include all twelve central trade union organizations, central organizations of employers, all state governments and union territories and central ministries and departments concerned with the agenda.
  • The first meeting of the Indian Labor Conference (erstwhile Tripartite National Workers’ Conference) was held in the year 1942 and till date a total of 46 sessions have been held.

Important issues for the purpose of improving labor welfare are discussed in the Indian Labor Conference. Many notable contributions have been made through this platform, including the introduction of the Minimum Wage Fixation System and Standing Orders for Employment.
