22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be established in the country
Recently, the Central Government has announced the establishment of 22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the country under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana– PMSSY’. Six of these are already fully functional.
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY)
- The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) was implemented in the country in the year The main objective of this scheme is to expand the facilities for quality and better medical education in the country, removing imbalances in the availability of affordable and reliable tertiary health care facilities in different parts of the country.
- The ‘ Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’ is operated by the ‘Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’.
- The scheme mainly has two components, the first being the establishment of new AIIMS institutes in the country and the upgrading of government medical colleges in different states.
- For the up-gradation of the Medical College Institute of the states, the cost under this scheme will be made available through a shared medium between the center and the state.
