18th UIC World Security Congress
Recently, the 18th UIC World Security Congress has been organized. It is jointly organized by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and International Union of Railways (UIC).
The ‘Jaipur Declaration’ has been adopted during this Congress.
This manifesto outlines an actionable agenda for UIC. The agenda will explore innovative approaches that will help global railway organizations achieve their long-term goals of safety and security.
The declaration also underlined UIC’s commitment to establishing a safe and secure rail network around the world. This commitment will be fulfilled by 2025 by activating the Asia-Pacific, Latin America and African Regional Assemblies.
International Union of Railways:
- The International Union of Railways (Union International Des Chemins- UIC) was established in the year 1922. Its headquarter is in Paris.
- It is a world-class professional association representing the railway sector for research, development and promotion of rail transport.
Railway Protection Force:
- RPF is the premier security and law-enforcement organization in the field of railway security in India.
- Raised as a federal force in the year 1957, the RPF is responsible for the security of railway property, passengers and travel areas.
- Through various initiatives like Operation Nanhe Farishte to rescue children and Operation Aahat (AAHT) to rescue women and children from the clutches of smugglers, RPF has played an exceptional role in enhancing passenger security in India.
